Cambridge City Football Club

Hidden away off Milton Road, Cambridge City Football Club provides a talking shop for elderly men in raincoats to get all excited about ludicrous technicalities on indirect free-kicks, based around a set of rules that exist entirely in their own heads. In the background, their grandchildren hurtle around the perimeter and try to escape over the walls until restrained by passers-by. Not, in short, a serious sporting venue. On the field, expect to see gifted 14year old wingers scythed down and spat on by journeymen stoppers twice their age and waistline, and, from September to March, pitches that bear more resemblance to trenches of the Somme than any kind of sporting venue.
