Fitzwilliam Museum

A 2004 revamp means even if you've visited before, Fitzwilliam Museum is more than worth coming back for seconds. A fine place to chill out with some mind-expanding artwork and baffling ancient stuff, keen Indiana Jones wannabes will relish the Egyptian and classical displays. Everyone else is likely to find something that makes them go 'wow', even if it's just a painting they've seen on telly being hummed and ha-ed at by Mark Lawson et al. Large school groups running around filling in things on weekdays mean it's best to visit at the weekends. But there's always somewhere secluded to find, usually containing something new and interesting, and it's all for free. Hurrah!
