What's going on in Cambridge
Itchy Explores the Fringe
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is creeping up on us again and we're already overwhelmed with options and deciding whether we can squeeze in six shows a day. Seeing as we've spent hours trawling through the listings to find the gems, we thought we'd be nice and share our top picks with you. Just please don't buy up all the tickets, we're still saving up for ours.
Obama Mia!
Winning the prize for title-that-most-sucks-us-in is Obama Mia!, which we desperately hope will involve a Barack-a-like singing Gimme Gimme Gimme. Given its success in Dublin they may well have come up with something even more funny than that, though it's hard to imagine.
Axis of Awesome - Songs in the Key of Awesome
A trio of Aussies who we are desperately trying to avoid comparing to Tenacious D, although we only want to because the chubby fella looks like Jack Black. Brilliant musicians with brilliantly silly minds, The Axis of Awesome will change your life. At least for a bit.
Jack Whitehall - Learning Difficulties
Young whippersnapper Whitehall proves that you don't have to be middle-aged and ugly to make people ROFL. That's right, we're down with the kids. Apparently he'd like to tell us all about the mistakes he hasn't learnt from. Maybe one of those mistakes was the mandigan in his publicity shot. Go see him to find out.
Piramania! The Swashbuckling Pirate Musical
What was this year's hit TV show? Clearly Glee. And in which language do you use Facebook? English (Pirate) of course. The natural progression from these two wonders of the modern world is Piramania! The Swashbuckling Musical, from the hugely talented people whose Plague! The Musical sold out in 2008. Ooh arrrr me hearties.
Laura Solon - The Owl of Steven
Laura stormed the 2005 festival in her own understated way by snapping up the Perrier Award for her debut show Kopfraper's Syndrome. The girl who pulls off split-personality quality characters has come up with a third show, The Owl of Steven, which will no doubt be just as ridiculous as the others.
